SAM coupé computer

 General

The SAM Coupé computer was produced in 1989, its main selling point that it was ZX Spectrum 48K compatible.

Simcoupe

This is an emulator of the Sam Coupé it runs under Windows, MS- DOS, Linux/Unix and many other operating systems.

Quazar

Produces a bi-monthly magazine call Sam Revival. Also they sell hardware and software. Currently being developed is an accelerator for Sam Coupé running up to 20Mhz giving over 4 times the speed.

 SAM Coupé Specifications

Processor
Z80b running at 6MHz (real speed 4.75MHz)
ROM
32K including Basic programming language, disk bootstrap, BIOS
RAM
256K or 512K internal memory
Sound
Philips SAA1099 Synthesizer: 6 channel, 8 octave stereo sound chip
Graphics
Mode 1: 32x24 character cells per screen with cell holding 8x8 pixels, each cell with 2 colours; 16 colour palette on screen from 128 colours, Spectrum compatible mode
Mode 2: as mode 1, but 32x192 cells.
Mode 3: 512x192 pixels, each pixel can select 4 possible colours.
Mode 4: 256x192 pixels, each pixel can select 16 possible colours. Using line interrupts you could change the palette on each line giving 128 possible colours.
Disk Drives 1 or 2 3.5" floppy disk drives giving 780K of storage each
